The rocks, trees and water of the Canadian Shield are all around me.  They speak to me and I feel a deep passion for their beauty and for the way their textures and colours  change with the seasons.  In this troubled world, they are constant. They ground me and bring me peace.

I paint the rugged Eastern Ontario landscape in an abstract way.  The view outside my studio is my jumping off point. I look out and respond to what I see by making marks on my surface that create a ‘visual language’ of the textures and shapes. It looks a bit of a mess at this early stage. But then I use a big tool kit - oil paint, wax, acrylics, graphite, charcoal, inks, pastels, and collage - to pull my marks together into a strong composition.  I’m trying to capture the feeling of what I see rather than an accurate depiction.
